Apollo

You are here:
Blue eyed God ...

Est. DOB 1/15/2023, Weight 57 lbs.

I’m Alive …

My name is Apollo and I’m alive because I have a foster home.  I’m alive because my foster mom made a small sacrifice and rescued me, made some small adjustments to her routine and welcomed me into her home.  Now I’m looking for my furever home.  I’m quite intelligent if I say so myself, and quite loveable too.  I love to play (I’m a teenager) so if you like to play fetch, I’m your boy!  Or we could just chill on the couch.   I love playing with other dogs too.

I know you’re a caring person because you’re looking for a furbaby to add to your family and guess what: you’d be saving two dog’s by adopting me because then my foster mom could rescue another dog in need!  Thank you for caring and wanting to adopt a rescue dog, I hope you’ll come to HOPE adoptions this weekend to meet me and see if we’re a fit for each other.  Paws crossed!

Apollo

Astrid #loves-her-hoomans

THINKS SHE'S A LAP DOG

DOB 4/12/23 weight ~40 #

Hey there, everyone! I'm Astrid, a gorgeous, fun-loving, friendly, outgoing, energetic Siberian Husky/White German Shepherd mix gal with striking icy-blue eyes and an always-happy, exuberant spirit. I absolutely love my hoomans and want to be with them all the time. Foster Mom hasn’t told me that I’m NOT a toy dog, so I like to jump up in her lap for a good snuggle.

We huskies are pack-oriented dogs, so I get along superbly with other dogs whom I meet on walks. I know that my harness means that I’m going for a walk or to the dog park. Yipee! I’m leash-trained, although if I get nervous, I circle behind Foster Mom. I live with cats, and I'm fairly good with them. I'm not left alone with them yet, but the cats pretty much keep me in my lane.

We huskies were bred to be compact sled dogs of significant endurance to pull light loads over frozen expanses. When we become house pets, we need an outlet for our considerable energy. So it's best that I get vigorous daily exercise at the dog park or in the back yard with a secure fence so I can run, run, run to my heart’s content. If it’s not too hot, I love being outdoors where I can splash in the wading pool.

I’m not a backyard dog unless Foster Mom is there to play interactively with me. When she throws my favorite toy, I always bring it back for more fetching. I’m ready to frolic all the time, and after a good play session, I’ll settle down and lay at Foster Mom’s feet or on the bed with her if she’s tired too.

I’m a smart, eager-to-please girl who knows my name as well as voice commands like sit, down, no, and come here. I’m already trained to sit for my food to be served, but don’t try to touch my food after you’ve given it to me! Although I’m house-trained, I don’t like to be crated because I get restless and won’t settle down even for short periods while Foster Mom is away. So she leaves me in a room of my own, and I’m happy as a lark. Other things I don’t like are thunder and lightning storms, large trucks, and small children.

I was found as a stray on Foster Mom's brother's street. Now I'm all ready for my second and forever home. If you're looking for a medium-sized dog who really, really enjoys family life, I'm your girl! Come meet me today and see my beautiful blue eyes for yourself.

Biscuit #eager-to-please

You are here:
FUN-LOVING AND ENERGETIC PUP

DOB 12/1/23, WEIGHT 25 pounds at 4 m/o (~55 pounds expected at maturity)

Hey there, everyone! I’m Biscuit, a super-sweet, happily effervescent brindle-fawn Black Mouth Cur mix gal who just loves everybody and therefore craves to maximize my time with all ages of hoomans! When I bat my sweet brown eyes at them, they know I’m expressing my eagerness to please them. I’m a fun-loving and energetic pup who enjoys playing with my foster family as well as entertaining myself with my toys. I’m a very good girl whose favorite chew toy right now is a dilapidated old Croc shoe.

I’m a quick learner who is already leash-trained and obeys a few simple commands like “sit” and “no.” Although I haven’t mastered potty-training 100%, for the most part I’ve learned to be crate-trained. I know about cats, but they don't know about me. And, of course, I love food!

In case you’re not familiar with the temperament of adult Black Mouth Curs, we’re big-hearted, versatile, brave, highly intelligent, and easily trainable (as long as training's consistent). We were bred for stamina and love to work, so it's best if you provide us with regular exercise such as daily long walks, Frisbee-throwing at the dog park, or participation in dog sports. When I’m full grown, I’ll have a strong, fit, athletic appearance and, like most athletic dogs, will flourish when both my mind and my body are stimulated.

My rescue story is a sad one. My momma, 2 siblings, and I were dumped in a neighborhood in southwest Houston. Unfortunately, my momma didn’t survive being hit by a car, and my siblings evaded capture and disappeared. I wandered up a driveway to "surrender," so I was taken to BARC by a well-meaning neighbor. My fortunes changed, however, when another neighbor saw my photo on the BARC website, came and bailed me out, and took me home to foster me!

Now I’m ready to find my happy-ever-after forever family. Could that be you? Hopefully my sad story has plucked your heartstrings, and my new lucky-leash on life will continue when you meet me and I capture your heart. If you’re ready to fall head over paws in love with me, arrange to meet me today! Be ready for me to cover your face with mushy puppy kisses!

Buster #bundle-of-love

You are here:
LOVES BELLY RUBS AND GIVES KISSES

Est. DOB 10/8/18, Weight ~ 65 lbs

I’m Buster, a sweet, happy, eager-to-please, playful Boxer/Black Mouth Cur mix fella who loves “marathon” belly rubs and snuggling for hours with my human dad on the sofa or the bed. When he sits on the floor with me, I love to lie across his lap and give kisses.

I’m very loyal and doting with my human dad, with whom I’ve bonded tremendously, and I follow him everywhere. I’m respectful and trustworthy with children outside the coffee shop and on walks. A bonus is that I have a very soft mouth when I take treats and toys.

Speaking of walks, I love them! But, True Confessions – I’m working on my leash manners so I don’t get overly stimulated by cats, squirrels, or certain other dogs. I really enjoy the company of most other dogs, whether playing or lounging around together.  Moderate exercise not only stimulates me physically but mentally too.

I’ve been through obedience training and I “sit,” “down,” and “place” on command (for the most part). The trainer says that I’m a quick learner because of my treat-motivation. I’ve had a rotating cast of dog walkers, and they all applaud how people-friendly I am. With proper introductions, I meet new people and strangers easily – with the exception of people who ring that annoying doorbell.

I’ve come a long way from when I was rescued at BARC, Houston’s City shelter. You know, there are advantages to adopting an adult dog like me who’s past the stage of puppy-craziness. I’m crate-trained and know how to use the doggy door. I’m not a digger and I don’t destroy anything that isn’t a toy -- other than a couple of pillows. I’ve been a loving adopted canine brother for many months but now my canine brother's anxiety has gotten worse, to the point where it is hard for us to be together therefore it’s better that I find a new home since he was here first.  So, I’m available for adoption again!

If you’re looking for a big, gentle boy who’s a bundle of love, I fit the bill!! And I’m flexible – I can live in an apartment as long as I get adequate exercise or a home with a backyard for chasing the tennis ball.  I’d love to be the star of the show and get all of your love, i.e., not have to share you with another dog in the home, but I’d still like going to Day Care, the dog park, and play dates with my canine friends. Arrange to meet me, and remember, I’ve never met a stranger!

Gordo #lover-and-friend

You are here:
GIVES 200% IN ALL ENDEAVORS

DOB 11/1/18, weight 40 pounds

Arf! Arf, everyone! I’m Gordo, a sweet, gentle, even-tempered yellow Cattle Dog mix. My hooman mom describes me as “a lover and friend.” Need I say more about my compatibility with hoomans – both adults and kids? She also christened me as a “true baller” because I absolutely live to play fetch. In fact, I’m so smart that she thinks I’d do great in agility dog sports. I give 200% in all my endeavors, including protecting my foster home.

I get along great with the cats and other dogs in my foster home because I tend to submit to the stronger pet personalities. That said, I’m here because the dogs in my original home didn’t accept me as the “newbie” of the pack. In fact, I was under threat of being attacked so I was dumped outside until I was finally rescued to the safety of my foster home. I do fit in great here, but unfortunately my hooman mom is under the threat of eviction and wisely is trying to find me the perfect forever home that I deserve.

Do you have room in your heart and hearth for a handsome, sweet-faced, adaptable fella who will love you 200%? Then arrange to meet me! Incidentally there are advantages to adopting an adult dog like me. I have perfect house habits and won’t chew or destroy your stuff.

Kodi #stumpy-tailed

You are here:
GREAT FAMILY DOG

DOB 11/1/18, weight 65 pounds

Hey there, everyone! I’m Kodi, a sweet, loving, and playful red Australian Stumpy-Tail Cattle Dog mix. (This is an AKC breed that is NOT an Australian Cattle Dog with a docked tail.) We are a naturally bob-tailed breed that stands square with plenty of leg-length under our bodies.

My hooman mom describes me as “a great family dog” because I get along great with adults, kids, cats, and other dogs. You name it, I’m easy to please. Like my brother Gordo, I can’t get enough of playing fetch, and I’m an expert at focusing on the ball. I should be an Astros outfielder! After a rousing game of fetch, I enjoy being a couch potato with Gordo. I pride myself on my dedication to guarding my foster home.

When my owner died, a relative gave me to my new mom. She loves me, and I do fit in great here, but unfortunately she is under the threat of eviction and wisely is trying to find me the perfect forever home that I deserve.

Do you have room in your heart and hearth for a big, burly, and handsome red man who will love you 200%? Then arrange to meet me, and let’s begin writing a new chapter in our lives together! Incidentally there are advantages to adopting an adult dog like me. I have perfect house habits and won’t chew or destroy your stuff.

Lucas #ready-to-snuggle

You are here:
BILINGUAL POOCH

Estimated DOB 10/29/19, weight 55 pounds

Hello!  My name is Lucas, and I was abandoned at a vet clinic where I was tied to the front door.  Fortunately, the clinic found a client who agreed to take me in and foster me. The vet helped get me hooked up with an adoption program, so here I am, a HOPE dog now!

I love playing with balls and squeaky toys, going running with my foster mom’s neighbor, and sunning in the backyard in nice weather. I like to play with other dogs, but I like to wrestle. It looks/sounds rough, so I may be better as the only-pet child.

I'm a smart boy who already knows "sit." I'm crate trained, bilingual, and ready to snuggle with you! Arrange to meet me today!

Lula #always-smiling

You are here:
MY NAME IS FUN TO SAY AND SO AM I!

Est. DOB 11/18/23, weight 31 lb.

I'm Lula, a very happy girl who's always smiling and wagging my tail. I love to be around people and my foster mom's 70-lb. dog. I like being in the mix and would do best with another dog to play with and a backyard to run around in. My foster family has two teenagers, but I also do well with younger children.

I was just a tiny puppy when I was abandoned at the '401 Cafe in Bellaire. Lucky for me, my foster family pulled me out of the Bellaire Dog Pound just 3 days later on Easter Sunday. It was scary in there with all of the barking!

You will be happy to know that I have learned to sit, to stay, to spin around (for a treat), and to run next to the bike. Now I know where the steps are in the pool, and I'm working on learning to like to swim. I now know that when a door opens, I need to sit and be invited to go through it. I'm also learning not to chase my foster family's cats. (I've gotten a lot better at that one after a few bops on my nose!)

I'm very eager to please -- so my future is BRIGHT.  Arrange to meet me today so I can cover your face with mushy puppy kisses.

Sammy #cheery-lap-dog

You are here:
BOOSTS YOUR MOOD, MAKES YOU SMILE

Est. DOB 1/7/15, WEIGHT 12.7 lbs.

Arf! Arf, everyone! I’m Sammy, a sweet, friendly, quiet, and affectionate white Maltipoo (Maltese/Mini Poodle mix) fella who is, in my humble opinion, the world’s greatest little dog. I think my foster mom agrees because she loves it that I curl up and settle in her lap whenever I can. There are two resident dogs and a cat in my foster home, but I’m much rather interact with beloved Foster Mom than play with them.

I have a comical idiosyncrasy: I like to burrow under anything I can move and get under. You name it – bedcovers, blankets, pillows, throws. Foster Mom thinks it’s adorable that a cute little thing such as I am likes to excavate my own little lair like a mole.

Let me tell you a little about Maltipoos. We’re gentle, social dogs who love people. Our happy, cheerful dispositions are guaranteed to boost your mood and make you smile. We can even be good therapy dogs because of the comfort we provide. And I’m no exception to this profile!

I really looked like a mess when my foster mom first rescued me! Oh my goodness – I weighed only 10 pounds! You could see every bone on my vertebrae, plus I had no hair on my back. My eyes were practically glued shut with “goop” from an infection; I also had an ear infection; and my mouth was a mess from neglected preventative dentistry.

Thank heavens Foster Mom and the vet have transformed me into a new man! With a steady diet of nutritious food, I’ve gained 2.5 pounds, I’m filling out nicely, and my fur is growing back! I’m eating a soft diet that’s appropriate after all of the diseased teeth (that hadn’t already fallen out) have been pulled. I look and feel so much better! And the silver lining about having no teeth is that I don't need any future dental cleanings!

Medications have cleared up my original eye and ear infections. The vet also diagnosed that I have a condition called “dry eye,” which means that I don’t produce tears like I should. So Foster Mom puts drops in my eyes twice a day and cleans out any “goop” once to twice a day Thanks to the hair around my eyes being clipped, Foster Mom can clean out my eyes easier. I have cataracts in both eyes so I have very limited visibility and bump into things, but get around once I've learned my way! I generally move slow so I don’t hurt myself !

Even though I sleep a good portion of the day, I am quite aware of sounds and scents. I will sound the alarm at unfamiliar noises. I will track Foster Mom down if she has moved from where I left her using my superior olfactory senses.

My ideal home would be one that has a doggie door to a small fenced back yard and someone to keep me company.  I’m so grateful for all the love and attention that I’m getting! In return, I snuggle and cuddle like you wouldn’t believe! I’ve learned how to use the doggie door, and I’m now crate-trained.

If you’re looking for a cozy lap dog and can look past my limitations, I’d really like to be your dog! Half of my life is still ahead of me, so let’s spend it together! My heart has so much love to give, all that’s missing is YOU!
