Buster

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is 10/8/2018.

Buster was rescued from BARC, the Houston City Shelter, and has been fostered at a boarding kennel until just recently when he got a chance at a foster home for a respite from kennel life.

Buster is a happy, playful dog that loves to go to Doggie Day Care, the Dog Park, and long walks along the bayou walking trail.  He really enjoys the company of other dogs that like to play with him and he can play for hours!   In his foster home, Buster has been submissive and respectful of the other dog’s and this is also the case when he goes to the Dog Park.  He has slept in his crate at night, been respectful of the young child in his foster home, and not been destructive of any property.  He’s very sweet with people (loves belly rubs, will lay across your lap when sitting on the floor) and eager to please.  Once he’s through playing, Buster loves to relax and just chill out with the pack (both humans and canines), whether inside or outside.

Buster is a strong boy and thrives on exercise and mental stimulation.  He also knows Sit and Stay, takes treats very gently, fetches the tennis ball and knows how to use the doggy door.

Buster’s ideal home would be with an active person /family that enjoys the outdoors and will include Buster in their active lifestyle.  A doggy pal and a backyard would be nice too.

Jake

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is 12/14/2018.

What do you do with the sweet, skinny dog you find trotting down the Highway?  You pick him up and get him to safety, of course!  Jake is such a happy, energetic dog, he loooves to play and run!  His favorite thing in the whole world is to go to doggy day care OR the dog park and play with other dogs!  When he's finally worn out, he's ready to snuggle with his foster mom or play with his toys, in particular his Jolly Ball or tennis balls.

Jake has been through obedience class and knows some basic commands. He is crate trained and rides well in the car.  He enjoys going for walks and playing in the water (he’s had a few unintended swimming episodes at the dog park) and if no toys are around, a stick will do just fine!

Jake is currently fostered at a boarding kennel but would love to get into a real foster home or an adoptive home.  His ideal forever home will provide him with lots of attention, exercise and mental stimulation and share his exuberance for life.  He’ll be at his best in a home with another canine companion, a back yard for playing and wrestling, and without small children (older kids - 12+ years old -  are OK).

Mia

You are here:
Beautiful, quite Shepherd girl.

Beautiful Mia, she's had a hard life but her past is behind her and now she's looking forward to a loving home for the rest of her life.  She is being fostered at a boarding kennel but would love to get a foster home or a foster-to-adopt home.

Mia is a quiet, gentle dog that bonds heavily with her person but it can take her a while to warm up to new people.  She enjoys going on leisurely walks where she can do lots of sniffing and rolling on her back for back scratches. She rides well in the car and she's very treat motivated.  She prefers smaller dogs and appears to be indifferent to cats.

Mia's ideal home would be with a pet parent that is familiar with Shepherds, is a fairly quite home, and that will be patient with her as she acclimates to her new surroundings and people.

Nugget

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is 2/19/2019.

Nugget was found wandering the street and gets along great with her foster dog siblings. She wants to meet everyone she sees (human and canine) and will give her a little bark to let you know what she wants (including going outside to potty)!. She is house-broken and crate trained (will go in on command), will sit when asked, and is practicing walking on leash. Nugget loves toys, treats, hugs, scratches, and is big on cuddles (she sometimes thinks she's much smaller than she actually is). She is a sweet girl who would do well with other dogs and older children.

Riley

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is 7/1/2020.

Hi! My name is Riley.  I can tell we already have something in common – we are both looking for our best friend!  I am about a year old and as you can see, pretty adorable.  I am already house-trained, still working on my leash skills, but I have made so much progress.  I really love going on walks, so improving this is important to me.  I can also sit, stay, down and sometimes shake.  I have enjoyed learning new things (and the treats in the process).  It makes me really happy when my foster mom tells me what a quick learner I am.

If you have other dogs, no problem.  I am a pro-wrestler!  I haven’t been around cats, but it is a possibility.  I’ve encountered a few kids on walks, they don’t seem to bother me. Speaking of walks, did I mention that I really like walks?  When I’m not on walks, I enjoy relaxing in my crate.  Sometimes a girl just needs a little ‘me’ time.

I may be a little shy at first, but I’ll warm up.  You see, I didn’t get as much interaction with new things at my first home, so sometimes I proceed with caution.  As I experience more, the easier it gets.  I am a work in progress.  Please be patient & help me gain confidence in new situations.  I’m excited to meet you 🙂

Tony

You are here:

“Since you’re reading this, you’re obviously looking for a new best friend—and, hey, so am I! I don’t care how old you are or what you look like, but in case those things matter to you, I’m approximately 10 years old and I go by Tony. As you can see from my photo(s), I am small but don’t let that fool you. I am mighty.

I absolutely love treats; my favorite is any that tastes of beef or duck. One of the most important things to know about me is that I may need a little time and patience when I first meet you. This is because I am shy initially but once I get to know you (which doesn't take long), I am all for belly rubs and lazy lounging! When I’m not admiring your every move, I’d love to be playing tug with you or with any other canine brother or sister you have. I normally get a sock to play with and I go bonkers with it.

My ideal home would be a home with other small dog(s) like me and if you have cats, I don’t pay them any mind.  So, what do you say? Wanna be besties?

Turtle

You are here:

Turtle has given up her former career as a back yard junk dog!  It's time to start something new, and HOPE is helping her start a new career as a loving pet. Turtle has many skills that will make her new career as an adopted pooch a breeze!  For example, she has plenty of playgroup experience, and she excels at long leisurely walks.  However, she also enjoys just sitting in the yard bird watching or watching the squirrels playing in the trees.  She also has wonderful people skills.

Turtle's specialties are snuggling, smiling and making human hearts grow three sizes. Turtle's favorite past time is just lying on the couch with her human, watching TV. Can you help Turtle start her new career as an adopted member of your loving family?

Venus

You are here:

In her own words:  I was saying to myself just this morning "Venus, you know what you need? You need a person all your own."  So I sat down to write this post for the nice people at HOPE, because  that's the kind of thing they do - find nice people for extremely intelligent and lovable furbabies.  I shudder to type this, but I'm LAPLESS! That's right, I have no human lap to call my own. Could you be persuaded to volunteer yours?  I can't wait to see my forever home!"

Venus is an active and incredibly smart girl who likes nothing more than to stretch her legs at the beach or at the park.  She'd suit an active person who wants an outgoing and friendly companion - if you can lob a tennis ball, Venus will be your friend for life!  She would like to be the only pet in her new home.
