Amigo #canine-marshmallow
DOB 3/1/22, Weight 50 lbs.
Hey there, everyone! I’m Amigo, and I’m a sweet, gentle white American Staffordshire Terrier mix fella. I’m well-named because “amigo” means “friend” in Spanish, and that’s what I want to be --- your friend. I was initially shy when I first met my Foster Mom, but once I warmed up to her by learning that she’s gentle and that I can trust her, I’ve been a happy canine marshmallow ever since. I adore going on walks with her as well as when she trains me because they’re great bonding times for us. Playtime is my favorite part of my day, and she has several dogs that fill the bill – especially the girls and the small ones.
You see, I was found hiding in some bushes at the pool in my foster mom’s neighborhood. I had a lot of emotional scars from the way hoomans had treated me as a stray, so I was terrified of the Good Samaritan who tried to catch me. Thank heavens that he was persistent, and his consistent gentleness convinced me that he had my best interests at heart.
It’s amazing how resilient I’ve become as I've learned that not all hoomans are scary. True confessions: I still get a little scared on adoption days – but there’s the chaos of barking dogs and swarms of people. However, I love treats, and they save the day for me at adoption events!
I’ve come such a long way in my socialization that I’m pretty proud of myself – and so is Foster Mom! So it’s time for me to find my forever family. I’m gentle and loving, sweet-natured, extremely loyal, trustworthy, and affectionate -- which all add up to making me an ideal family dog. And did I mention that I’m eager to please and possess a very all-round mild, playful, pleasant temperament?
Arrange to meet me today! I want nothing more than a loving, patient home where my hooman will let me blossom into the true “amigo” I was meant to be!

Bear #ice-blue-eyes
DOB 2/1/23, Weight 63 lbs.
Hey there, everyone! I’m Bear, an incredibly smart, loyal, patient, gentle Siberian Husky/Anatolian Shepherd mix fella. My stunning ice-blue eyes, bushy curled tail, and upright “prick” ears indicate my Husky heritage. Yet, although I’m less than half the size of a purebred Anatolian Shepherd, my biscuit color as well as my black eyes and muzzle certainly bespeak that breed somewhere in my bloodlines.
You can tell from my sweet, innocent face that I’ve got quite a soft side. I’m happiest when I’m hanging out with my people, whether it’s lounging at their feet, getting belly rubs, or leisurely walking on quiet streets together. Boy howdy, do I love trips to the farmer’s market, doggie day care, and the dog park where I can really stretch my legs. I’m quite a nimble, playful guy who absolutely loves fetching balls that my foster pawrents throw as well as chewing on my squeaky toys.
My future foster pawrents found me as I wandered their neighborhood during Hurricane Beryl. They quickly realized how special I am – no ordinary stray – and brought me home. Their due diligence did not result in getting me back home, but they were delighted to discover that I was already housebroken and obeyed a few commands like “sit” and “shake.” I get along great with the two resident Chihuahua females, although we’re like Mutt and Jeffs. True confessions: I’m a little too energetic for the resident cats.
True to my Husky side, I can be a bit vocal, although I’m much calmer and easy-going than most Huskies. When my foster pawrents leave, I don’t do well in a crate and can be a bit of an escape-artist, but I’m on my best behavior when I’m left free-roaming in my foster home with my canine buddies.
I’d make a devoted, responsive, adaptable and all-around fantastic companion for a family who can keep up with my energy and provide me with lots of love. Could your family become my best forever friends? Arrange to meet me today, and I promise that my mesmerizing blue eyes are sure to catch your attention and enrapture your hearts.

Beefcake
Estimated DOB 11/1/2023, weight 55 pounds.
Beefcake is a master of disguise – we’ve come to learn that he’s actually a Golden Retriever stuck in his big-boy Am Staff body. He’s an absolute goofball!
Beefcake plays wonderfully with other dogs and loves to play tag and wrestle but, with a little boundary help from his humans, he is also respectful of dogs that may not be interested in playing. If there aren’t any dogs to play with, he also enjoys a game of tug or fetch with his foster humans! He would love to have a doggie sibling (especially one that loves to play with him) but would also be just fine as a solo pup.
If you’re looking for a weighted blanket, look no further! In the house, Beefcake transforms into a loaf, and his preferred cuddle position is directly on top of you. He’ll never say no to a movie night, but he has no preference on genre, so it’s your pick every night! He’s very quiet and isn’t bothered by outside noises/sights (e.g., lawnmowers, garbage trucks, passing dogs, etc.), so he makes for a great work-from-home partner too.
He’s house-trained and crate-trained. He loves to learn – he knows how to sit, walks well on a leash (except when he sees a squirrel), is working on his “place” command, and is generally keen to learn new things.
Other things to know about this goofy boy:
+ He has a high prey drive for squirrels. We’re working on this every day, and he’s improving, but his new family should be prepared to help him continue working through this to ensure walks are enjoyable for everyone.
+ He’s interested in the neighborhood outdoor cats and has politely met one that was lying down. However, with his prey drive, he may be better in a home without cats.
+ He doesn’t live with a child in his foster home, but he has been fine around them at weekend adoptions, and he has walked past them in close proximity/watched them at the Farmer’s Market as well as the park and didn’t seem bothered or overly interested. We think he’d be okay in a home with kids but would be best if they’re older, given his size and energy levels.

Bruni #puppy-at-heart
DOB 10/19/22, weight 15#
Hey there, everyone! I’m Bruni, a sweet, energetic, curious, and most of all cuddly black Basenji/Dachshund mix gal wit white tuxedo markings. You can remember my name because Bruni was the salamander Fire Spirit in Disney’s movie Frozen 2. Spirited I am – and I could play all day! I love chasing my toys, being right in the middle of my foster family’s activities, and when I’m exhausted, falling asleep in someone’s lap. I get along great with the resident 15-year-old dog, and we even cuddle sometimes. The resident cat and I are buddies too, although sometimes I want to play more vigorously than he’d prefer. There are no kids in my foster home, but I feel confident that I’d get along great with well-behaved children who know how to handle small dogs.
I spotted my future foster pawrents as they were walking their dog, decided they were fantastic, and then followed them home. Of course I had no collar, tag, or chip, so they couldn’t find my owners. It was only several weeks later that they realized that I was pregnant, and I eventually delivered my five puppies in foster care. Even though I’ve recently been a momma, I’m still a sweet puppy at heart. You should hear my strange yelps of delight when I’m totally “lost in moment” during playtimes.
Here’re a few more tidbits about me: One of the many signs that my previous owner took good care of me is that I’m fearful of toothbrushes. The only time I bark is at the mail person. When I’m alone in a new environment, I’m prone to chewing. I’m potty-trained but prefer to do my business on my walks.
Now that I’ve permanently retired from being a doting momma, I’m ready to find my forever home. If you’re looking for puppy-hearted pooch who’s always ready to play and who adores being around people, I’m the gal for you! Arrange to meet me today!

Calliope
Estimated date of birth is 3/25/2024, weight 40 lbs.
Calliope was abandoned in the parking lot of a Petsmart but fortunately for her, her future foster mom worked at the store and scooped her right up!
This young girl is very sweet and playful, and has energy to spare! Her foster home has several dogs and Calliope wants to play, er, wrestle, with all of them. She loves to go on walks, meet new people, play with her stuffed animal toys and snuggle on the couch for movie time.
Calliope knows Sit and Wait, and likes to sleep in her crate at night. She is curious of the cats in her foster home but doesn’t interact with them much.
Calliope would love a home where she can get lots of attention and exercise, and have a canine brother or sister to play with. Is that you?

Chela #tangy-girl
DOB 1/1/22, weight 19 pounds
Hey there, everyone! I’m Chela, a spunky, cheerful, and energetic blonde-and-white Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix gal who’s always happy to see my hoomans. Foster Mom says that I’m a “tangy” girl, so she christened me Chela, short for Chelada, which is a Mexican drink made by mixing lime juice, salt, and beer. I don't know about my being "tangy," but I do know that I'm pretty delectable and that my lip-smacking name is well-chosen.
Foster Mom rescued me as a stray who’d been dumped in her neighborhood. Fending for myself on the mean streets of Houston forced me to learn to hold my own when I encountered big dogs. The best defense is a good offense, right? This was put to the test when Foster Mom brought me home and introduced me to her resident 70-pound female dog. My foster family soon learned that I’m all bluster, and now the resident pooch and I are very simpatico. True confessions: it took me awhile – not too long – to bond with my foster family. Now that I know and trust them, they’re “in.” In fact, they've become the sun and the moon to me, so I seek them out for affection.
I recently heard Foster Mom bragging about how delightful it is that I don’t destroy things by chewing them like so many dogs in her experience. She says that it’s a hard-to-come-by trait that I’m not even being interested in chewing. I say that it’s one of the advantages of a dog like me who’s past the stage of puppy mayhem!
Now I’m ready to find my forever home! Could that be with you? If you’re looking for a friendly, outgoing, and cuddly small/medium-sized pooch, I’m the gal for you! Arrange to meet me today, and I promise that I’ll leave tiny paw prints all over your heart.

Eva #lively-charmer
DOB 1/1/24, weight 8 lb.
Hey there, everyone! Eva is my name, and “happy play” is my game. I'm an outgoing, affectionate, and friendly white Shih Tzu mix gal who loves to snuggle. Some dogs live to dig holes and chase cats, but Shih Tzus’ idea of fun is sitting in your lap and acting adorable as you watch TV. Imagine yourself with me, looking up to you with my innocent eyes, adorable under-bite, and sweet expression.
Wherever we Shih Tzus go, giggles and mischief follow. Playful and energetic, I'm a lively charmer, and being cute is a way of life for me. I love everyone – kids, cats, and other small dogs -- and just want to be loved back. I'd probably get along great with well-behaved children who know enough to handle small dogs carefully. I’d make a great pet if you live in an apartment or lack a big backyard because we Shih Tzus require minimal exercise.
I was abandoned in my kennel, which was full of my toys, on my Foster Mom’s driveway. Who would do that to a sweet, innocent girl like me unless they couldn’t afford to care for me in the current inflationary financial conditions? Although it hurt me that I wasn’t treated like a member of the family, Foster Mom promises to pick out the perfect home for me from the many applicants who will want me. Since I’m house-trained and kennel-trained, I hope you'll arrange to meet me today. I make friends easily and promise to be a devoted family member if you choose to take me home!

Kip #fun-junky
Estimated date of birth is 8/8/22, weight 55 lbs.
So what is a Blue Lacy, you might ask? Why, it’s the State Dog of Texas, of course! https://www.thesprucepets.com/blue-lacy-breed-profile-4769790
Kip is a fun junky that loves to play with other dogs (sometimes it looks like Wrestlemania), but his second favorite activity is to hang out with his foster mom, chewing on a good bone. He’s such a goofball, always optimistic, always sure that a treat is hiding in your pocket and it has his name on it! A sweet potato – yes. A couch potato – not so much, although when he’s worn out, he does relax and loves to be petted while he snoozes on his dog cot.
Kip has been to obedience school and knows the basics (Sit, Down, Place, Wait). He also knows how to use the doggy door and stairs, is OK with baths (he splashes around in the pond at the dog park), and looooves to go on walks (and doesn’t pull much).
This boy had a rough first year of his life: abandoned at a large park, found his way to a kennel, was picked up by the City Pound, caught parvo at the pound and wound up on the euthanasia list before his foster mom sprung him!
Kip’s ideal home environment would have a mom /dad with an active lifestyle, a spunky little canine sister to play and snuggle with, and a nice size backyard to run around and get the zoomies out. Are you up for it!?

Kodi #stumpy-tailed
DOB 11/1/18, weight 73 pounds
Hey there, everyone! I’m Kodi, a sweet, gentle, loving, and playful red Australian Stumpy-Tail Cattle Dog/German Shepherd mix. (The former is an AKC breed that is NOT an Australian Cattle Dog with a docked tail. We are a naturally bob-tailed breed that stands square with plenty of leg-length under our bodies.)
My hooman mom describes me as “a great family dog” because I get along great with adults, kids, cats, and other dogs. You name it, I’m easy to please. I can’t get enough of playing fetch, and I’m an expert at focusing on the ball. Alas, I need to work on my ball-catching before I’m recruited to be an Astros outfielder! Foster Mom thinks I look like a unicorn when I lope around the backyard. I’m very much like a young teenager in my demeanor yet possess all the refinements of a mature dog, i.e. no chewing, no food aggression, no housebreaking accidents.
After a rousing game of fetch, I enjoy being a couch potato with Foster Mom because I cherish lying as close as possible to her. Although I’m not demanding, I soak up any affection and cuddles that she dispenses; in fact, occasionally I like for her to hold me. I treasure the shared downtime with Foster Mom as much as I enjoy our neighborhood walks.
I’m quite intelligent and know basic obedience. I realize that I have the capacity to learn more commands, which I’d enjoy because I’d be spending more one-on-one time with my hooman. I’m not much of a barker, although I alert Foster Mom when Amazon or the postman is at the door. Also, I share my glee when it’s time to go outside for fetch or a walk.
I was orphaned when my owner died, and my Foster Mom graciously agreed to bring me into her home, which I share with both cats and other dogs. I blended into the established group quite pawsitively and am actually quite kind to my foster mates. I prefer to be the leader, but I’m not an alpha dog. I’m such a perfect pooch that I’d make a great starter dog for any family. Do you have room in your heart and hearth for a big, burly, and handsome red man who will love you 200%? Then arrange to meet me, and let’s begin writing a new chapter in our lives together!

Lucas #ready-to-snuggle
Estimated DOB 10/29/19, weight 55 pounds
Hello! My name is Lucas, and I was abandoned at a vet clinic where I was tied to the front door. Fortunately, the clinic found a client who agreed to take me in and foster me. The vet helped get me hooked up with an adoption program, so here I am, a HOPE dog now!
I love playing with balls and squeaky toys, going running with my foster mom’s neighbor, and sunning in the backyard in nice weather. I like to play with other dogs, but I like to wrestle. It looks/sounds rough, so I may be better as the only-pet child.
I'm a smart boy who already knows "sit." I'm crate trained, bilingual, and ready to snuggle with you! Arrange to meet me today!

Milo #gives-mushy-puppy-kisses
Est DOB 12/22/23, weight 50 pounds
Hey there, everyone! I’m Milo, and I’m a sweet, happy, playful black Labrador/Cattle Dog mix fella with a splash of white on my nose and on my chest. I’ve got the prick ears of a Cattle Dog, but my solid black coat and lanky build indicate my Lab heritage.
I’m one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet because I love everyone, and of course, everyone loves me back. Could it be because of the always-innocent expression on my face? One of my favorite things to do is fall asleep on top of Foster Mom. True confessions: I snore a bit! I’m smart as a whip, and because I’m very food-motivated, treats have helped me to pick up a few commands very quickly.
I have lots of puppy energy, so I love to horse around with the resident dogs in my foster home but I also love to go to Doggy Day Care where I get along with everybody! I’m curious about the cats, but I haven’t been allowed to meet them yet. Thank heavens Foster Mom rescued me as a stray who was wandering her neighborhood with no collar, tags, or chip. Now I’m ready to find my forever home, and I can’t wait! Could that be with you? Arrange to meet me, and I promise to cover your face with mushy puppy kisses.

Sammy #cheery-lap-dog
Est. DOB 1/7/15, WEIGHT 12.7 lbs.
Arf! Arf, everyone! I’m Sammy, a sweet, friendly, quiet, and affectionate white Maltipoo (Maltese/Mini Poodle mix) fella who is, in my humble opinion, the world’s greatest little dog. I think my foster mom agrees because she loves it that I curl up and settle in her lap whenever I can. There are two resident dogs and a cat in my foster home, but I’m much rather interact with beloved Foster Mom than play with them.
I have a comical idiosyncrasy: I like to burrow under anything I can move and get under. You name it – bedcovers, blankets, pillows, throws. Foster Mom thinks it’s adorable that a cute little thing such as I am likes to excavate my own little lair like a mole.
Let me tell you a little about Maltipoos. We’re gentle, social dogs who love people. Our happy, cheerful dispositions are guaranteed to boost your mood and make you smile. We can even be good therapy dogs because of the comfort we provide. And I’m no exception to this profile!
I really looked like a mess when my foster mom first rescued me! Oh my goodness – I weighed only 10 pounds! You could see every bone on my vertebrae, plus I had no hair on my back. My eyes were practically glued shut with “goop” from an infection; I also had an ear infection; and my mouth was a mess from neglected preventative dentistry.
Thank heavens Foster Mom and the vet have transformed me into a new man! With a steady diet of nutritious food, I’ve gained 2.5 pounds, I’m filling out nicely, and my fur is growing back! I’m eating a soft diet that’s appropriate after all of the diseased teeth (that hadn’t already fallen out) have been pulled. I look and feel so much better! And the silver lining about having no teeth is that I don't need any future dental cleanings!
Medications have cleared up my original eye and ear infections. The vet also diagnosed that I have a condition called “dry eye,” which means that I don’t produce tears like I should. So Foster Mom puts drops in my eyes twice a day and cleans out any “goop” once to twice a day Thanks to the hair around my eyes being clipped, Foster Mom can clean out my eyes easier. I have cataracts in both eyes so I have very limited visibility and bump into things, but get around once I've learned my way! I generally move slow so I don’t hurt myself !
Even though I sleep a good portion of the day, I am quite aware of sounds and scents. I will sound the alarm at unfamiliar noises. I will track Foster Mom down if she has moved from where I left her using my superior olfactory senses.
My ideal home would be one that has a doggie door to a small fenced back yard and someone to keep me company. I’m so grateful for all the love and attention that I’m getting! In return, I snuggle and cuddle like you wouldn’t believe! I’ve learned how to use the doggie door, and I’m now crate-trained.
If you’re looking for a cozy lap dog and can look past my limitations, I’d really like to be your dog! Half of my life is still ahead of me, so let’s spend it together! My heart has so much love to give, all that’s missing is YOU!

Willie
Age: Young enough to learn, old enough to know better (1.5 years)
Weight: Schmedium (41 lbs)
Hey Human, they call me Willie! Even though I look like a basic, black Cattle Dog – don’t judge me by my looks! Because if you ask the humans who helped rescue me, they will say that it’s my “If you’re down, I am down!” attitude that makes me so lovable. So much so, that a group of people have rallied behind me to find me my forever home. Maybe that is you?
My rescue story is one that really shows how it takes a community to make rescue happen! A Good Samaritan found me as a stray who was probably dumped on the side of the busy Grand Parkway in front of the PetSmart in Richmond. He posted on Facebook, knocked on doors, and was then connected to HOPE who helped network me to find a foster to love and care for me. After bouncing around to several homes for my first few days post-rescue, I was ecstatic when my future foster mom stepped up to the plate and agreed to foster me.
I was the only dog in my foster home, but I'm curious when I meet other dogs on my walks (and tug on my leash when I see a cat that I want to chase) but with some structure and delicious chicken, I am making better choices in no time! Currently my time ran out with my temporary foster – so I will be in a boarding facility until someone steps up to help me. Come on rescue community! Can you be the one to give me temporary reprieve?
If you do choose to help me – just know that wherever you are, I will be napping nearby waiting for the next moment that I can climb in your lap for some snuggles or just some well-placed pats. Although I love being loved by my people, I do not pester them for affection. I'm playful when it's playtime, but I settle down and happily chill out at Foster Mom's feet while she reads. Being left alone at first was something I struggled with, but with consistent reassurance that my foster always returns in conjunction with a delicious foraging item in my crate – I am much more amenable to waiting for my partner in crime to get back home. I am very intelligent (hello, Cattle Dog!) and catch on quickly to training. I also LOVE treats – so training me is not only a fun experience for us both, but I would love to learn more fun tricks to show off to your friends. I already know how to automatically sit to say “please!” and have great eye contact.
Now the only eyes I am trying to catch, are those of my forever parent! Could that be you? Arrange to meet me today! My heart has so much love to give - all I need is YOU!

Xena #blue-eyed-beauty
DOB 5/1/22, weight 58 pounds
Hey there, everyone! I’m Xena, a sweet, incredibly friendly, spirited Siberian Husky mix gal whose heart is as big as my beautiful blue eyes. Due to my congenial nature, I love making new friends, whether they’re hooman or other dogs. I’m always up for an adventure – whether it’s a hike, a run, or just a fun day at the park. When the day is done, though, I’m an affectionate gal who just wants to relax and cuddle with Foster Mom. Since I’m quite smart and eager to please, she’s had a joy training me.
It’s hard to believe that I was hanging out as a stray with no collar, tags, or chip outside of a game shop. Who would not tear the neighborhood apart searching for me -- unless I was abandoned because my owner couldn’t afford to keep me as their pet anymore? Ah well, I’m not looking back! I was making a homeless man very agitated because the game store was "his territory." Thank heavens Foster Mom brought me home to foster me when she was alerted to my situation, and she promises to find me the fantastic forever home that I deserve the second time around.
If you’re looking for a loyal, lovable, playful, and energetic companion for your active lifestyle, I’m ready to be your new best friend. Arrange to meet me today. I think you’ll find not only that am I stunningly beautiful eye candy, but also that spending time with me will a complete joy to your heart.
