Batman is a bit shy at first when getting to know new people but he warms up quickly. He’s a sweet and playful puppy that enjoys running around the backyard and playing with his brother, Ollie. The kiddie wading pool is one of his favorite places and he likes to lounge in it all day. His favorite toy is currently his plastic water bowl that he likes to carry around the house.

Buddy
Estimated DOB 10/1/21, weight 62 lbs.
Woof, Woof, everyone! I’m Buddy, a happy, friendly, patient, trusting Black Lab mix fella who loves to hang out indoors with my people-pack. I’ve been called a low-rider, but basically I’m a Black Lab mixed with something smaller, perhaps Terrier? (my back is knee-high on my foster mom).
You’d be hard-pressed to find another dog who’s as gentle and well-socialized with people of all ages as I am – even when the vet pokes and prods me. Foster Mom says that I’m just the “best-est” boy all the way around!
I get along great with other dogs and love playing with them. Interactive play with my foster mom as she tosses toys, sticks, and balls for me thrills my heart. When I’m thoroughly exhausted from playing outside, I’m content to snooze on my doggie bed.
Let’s see – what else can I tell you about what a good boy I am? I’m smart, so I quickly learned “sit,” “down,” and “shake” as well as how to use the doggie door. I walk obediently on a leash, take treats gently, and am fine with baths.
A Good Samaritan found me on a back road where I’d been abandoned by my owner. I was covered in mange, but thank heavens my foster mom took me in. My coat has grown back nicely (after many medicated baths!), so I’m now ready for my forever home. Considering what I’ve been through, I’m very resilient because I’ve responded so enthusiastically to the love that my foster mom has showered upon me.
I’d love to spend the rest of my days in a comfy home surrounded by people who love me and will never abandon me again. I’d fit like a glove into a lot of households – including with kids and other dogs. Ideally an active family will adopt me and give me plenty of daily exercise – either by walking, jogging, or playing fetch in the back yard. Could that be with you? Arrange to meet me today!

Buster #bundle-of-love
Est. DOB 10/8/18, Weight ~ 65 lbs
I’m Buster, a sweet, happy, eager-to-please, playful Boxer/Black Mouth Cur mix fella who loves “marathon” belly rubs and snuggling for hours with my human dad on the sofa or the bed. When he sits on the floor with me, I love to lie across his lap and give kisses.
I’m very loyal and doting with my human dad, with whom I’ve bonded tremendously, and I follow him everywhere. I’m respectful and trustworthy with children outside the coffee shop and on walks. A bonus is that I have a very soft mouth when I take treats and toys.
Speaking of walks, I love them! But, True Confessions – I’m working on my leash manners so I don’t get overly stimulated by cats, squirrels, or certain other dogs. I really enjoy the company of most other dogs, whether playing or lounging around together. Moderate exercise not only stimulates me physically but mentally too.
I’ve been through obedience training and I “sit,” “down,” and “place” on command (for the most part). The trainer says that I’m a quick learner because of my treat-motivation. I’ve had a rotating cast of dog walkers, and they all applaud how people-friendly I am. With proper introductions, I meet new people and strangers easily – with the exception of people who ring that annoying doorbell.
I’ve come a long way from when I was rescued at BARC, Houston’s City shelter. You know, there are advantages to adopting an adult dog like me who’s past the stage of puppy-craziness. I’m crate-trained and know how to use the doggy door. I’m not a digger and I don’t destroy anything that isn’t a toy -- other than a couple of pillows. I’ve been a loving adopted canine brother for many months but now my canine brother's anxiety has gotten worse, to the point where it is hard for us to be together therefore it’s better that I find a new home since he was here first. So, I’m available for adoption again!
If you’re looking for a big, gentle boy who’s a bundle of love, I fit the bill!! And I’m flexible – I can live in an apartment as long as I get adequate exercise or a home with a backyard for chasing the tennis ball. I’d love to be the star of the show and get all of your love, i.e., not have to share you with another dog in the home, but I’d still like going to Day Care, the dog park, and play dates with my canine friends. Arrange to meet me, and remember, I’ve never met a stranger!

Jack
Estimated DOB 9/1/21, Weight ~ 65 lbs
Howdy! My name is Jack! I’m a very happy, wiggly, Black Labrador Retriever /Greyhound mix (best guess) with one erect and one floppy ear. I love all people, though sometimes I forget how big I am with kiddos. I LOVE to wrestle with other big dogs, go on hikes, splash in water, chew on all of my squeaky toys, and chase my tennis balls.
I’m being fostered by an amazing foster mom who is helping me work on my manners. I’m smart and an eager learner so long as treats are involved. My big foster brother and I wrestle lots, but my small foster sister is too small to play with, so I’d do best in a home with large, energetic dogs like me. I also have a foster kitty brother, but he and I don’t get along too well. I like to chase him, and he doesn’t like to be chased.
Though I may have lots of energy, I love to take naps with my foster mom, go to the park and watch the birds, watch TV, and even go people watching! We do lots of hikes and long walks to help me work off my energy so an active home with prior dog owner experience would be best. My foster mom thinks I would make a great sport dog or hiking buddy for the right family.
A Good Samaritan found me wandering around a park with no ID tags or microchip and I’m so relieved I was accepted into the HOPE program. I’m anticipating my new home with a loving, caring family, a canine pal, and a yard where I can frolic to my heart’s content. Could that be with you?

Joseph
Estimated DOB 1/1/2021, weight 85 lbs
Hello, my name is Joseph (Jo for short). If you ever wanted a big, cuddly bear for a pet, well, I can't really help you there but I am as close as it can be. I know we just met, but I love you... especially if you provide plenty of food and belly rubs and squeaky balls and food and a place for me to lick you and silly play and... um, and food!! I'm living with other dogs and cats in my foster home and they're awesome to hang out and play with! I'm so happy my fosters found me, and now I get to meet you and will be able to find my forever home, full of love and food soon!!

Kiki #happy-go-lucky
Est. DOB 11/1/20, WEIGHT ~70 LB.
Hello, my name is Kiki! I’m an Akita and some think I might be purebred! My original owners dumped me and my foster mom rescued me in her neighborhood.
I am a very loyal and affectionate companion and I love nothing more than being by my person's side. I am a very well-behaved dog at home. I am content to lay by your side or at your feet while you relax or work. I am also very well-trained and always aim to please.
My favorite trick is giving high-fives and I will stick my paw out when I’m looking for one. A cute quirk about me is I smack my lips when I eat treats! In addition to being a good girl, I am also very cute! I have a very soft, fluffy coat and gentle eyes that are sure to melt your heart.
One of my favorite activities is going for car rides. I am a great passenger, as I jump in quickly to get buckled into my seatbelt and I’m very calm and well-behaved in the car. I love feeling the wind in my fur and all the wonderful smells. I love every human I meet and am a very gentle dog when interacting with people, even children. I love being petted and even cuddling with you. My favorite toys are bouncy Kongs or tennis balls and I can keep myself entertained with them for a good while. I have a dog roommate that I live with now who I am best friends with.
My ideal home would be to live with just a male dog or no other animals. I prefer to be a home-living dog as I don’t like meeting new dogs (i.e. no dog parks for me!) I promise to be the best companion I can be and bring joy and love into your life. I hope you consider giving me a forever home.

Koda
Estimated DOB 11/22/2021, weight 47 lbs.
Koda couldn’t be more happy and friendly with everyone, despite being abandoned by his owner who pitched him over the fence of a boarding kennel late one night.
Koda loves to play with most other dogs his size or bigger that like to roughhouse (small dogs aren’t his thing). He takes treats gently, is content to snooze on his bed or cot when he’s through playing outside, knows how to use the doggy door, walks OK on leash, and knows a couple of commands (Sit and Down). He’s currently enrolled in Beginner’s Obedience Class and he gets to attend Doggy Day Care periodically.
Koda’s ideal home would have another dog for a playmate and a nice yard to run around in, but he also likes to hang out inside with his people pack.

Max #blue-eye-brown-eye
Est DOB 11/23/21, weight 51lb.
Woof! Woof, everyone! I’m Max, a sweet, friendly, and outgoing Harrier Hound who’s perhaps mixed with a Catahoula because I have one blue eye and one brown eye. The Harrier is a larger version of its cousin the Beagle and was bred as a pack hound in England to chase hare. We’re known for our irresistibly sweet face and low-set, velvety ears, and I’ve got that Harrier look in spades.
I’m a very active, playful fella who loves people of all ages, including kids, as well as other dogs. But keep cats away from me because I like to chase them (just like my prey-driven ancestors chased hare). I love to swim in the lake at the dog park as well as enthusiastically retrieve balls, sticks, or whatever you throw into the lake. I adore running, so being your jogging partner would help me burn up my energy.
I’m a smart dude who’s learning commands such as “sientase” (Spanish for “sit” because my foster mom is bilingual!). I’m crate trained and still working on my potty training -- jusst read on to see why.
I was adopted by a family, but when I was eight or ten months old, they dropped me off for boarding at the vet and never picked me up. Think about it – I was abandoned by the only family I’d ever known! I just kept waiting and waiting for them to show up again! I always wondered if they were overwhelmed by soaring inflation . . .
It was miserable to be an active puppy confined to a cage at the clinic for over six months. What a place to spend my first birthday – it may have been Thanksgiving, but I wasn’t very thankful . . . UNTIL my future HOPE foster mom found out about my plight and decided to spring me from my cage. She brought me home with her and promised me that she’d me find a wonderful forever home.
My dreamy eyes glow with warmth and kindness, and my pleading expression will surely catch your attention. Arrange to meet me today and find out how irresistibly sweet I am!

Penelope
Estimated DOB 3/1/2022, weight 62 lbs
This spunky, loving, and beautiful young lady was found wondering Houston’s Eastside. She was hungry, covered in fleas, and alone, but despite whatever she’d been through she was still so positive, just jumping and licking all the humans she saw, looking for love!
Since she was picked up by her current foster mom she’s been learning and doing her best to be a good pup! Penelope is really smart, she has endless potential and responds well to training! She’s got lots of energy and character, she loves to hunt, play, chase and give lovin’s!
If you need a loving, playful, adventure hound in your life, then Penelope is the gal for you!

Sammy #cheery-lap-dog
Est. DOB 1/7/15, WEIGHT 12.7 lbs.
Arf! Arf, everyone! I’m Sammy, a sweet, friendly, quiet, and affectionate white Maltipoo (Maltese/Mini Poodle mix) fella who is, in my humble opinion, the world’s greatest little dog. I think my foster mom agrees because she loves it that I curl up and settle in her lap whenever I can. There are two resident dogs and a cat in my foster home, but I’m much rather interact with beloved Foster Mom than play with them.
I have a comical idiosyncrasy: I like to burrow under anything I can move and get under. You name it – bedcovers, blankets, pillows, throws. Foster Mom thinks it’s adorable that a cute little thing such as I am likes to excavate my own little lair like a mole.
Let me tell you a little about Maltipoos. We’re gentle, social dogs who love people. Our happy, cheerful dispositions are guaranteed to boost your mood and make you smile. We can even be good therapy dogs because of the comfort we provide. And I’m no exception to this profile!
I really looked like a mess when my foster mom first rescued me! Oh my goodness – I weighed only 10 pounds! You could see every bone on my vertebrae, plus I had no hair on my back. My eyes were practically glued shut with “goop” from an infection; I also had an ear infection; and my mouth was a mess from neglected preventative dentistry.
Thank heavens Foster Mom and the vet have transformed me into a new man! With a steady diet of nutritious food, I’ve gained 2.5 pounds, I’m filling out nicely, and my fur is growing back! I’m eating a soft diet that’s appropriate after all of the diseased teeth (that hadn’t already fallen out) have been pulled. I look and feel so much better! And the silver lining about having no teeth is that I don't need any future dental cleanings!
Medications have cleared up my original eye and ear infections. The vet also diagnosed that I have a condition called “dry eye,” which means that I don’t produce tears like I should. So Foster Mom puts drops in my eyes twice a day and cleans out any “goop” once to twice a day Thanks to the hair around my eyes being clipped, Foster Mom can clean out my eyes easier. I have cataracts in both eyes so I have very limited visibility and bump into things, but get around once I've learned my way! I generally move slow so I don’t hurt myself !
Even though I sleep a good portion of the day, I am quite aware of sounds and scents. I will sound the alarm at unfamiliar noises. I will track Foster Mom down if she has moved from where I left her using my superior olfactory senses.
My ideal home would be one that has a doggie door to a fenced back yard and someone to keep me company. I’m so grateful for all the love and attention that I’m getting! In return, I snuggle and cuddle like you wouldn’t believe! I’ve learned how to use the doggie door, and I’m now crate-trained.
If you’re looking for a cozy lap dog and can look past my limitations, I’d really like to be your dog! Half of my life is still ahead of me, so let’s spend it together! My heart has so much love to give, all that’s missing is YOU!
