Amigo #canine-marshmallow

You are here:
RESILIENT SPIRIT AND BIG HEART

DOB 3/1/22, Weight 50 lbs.

Hey there, everyone! I’m Amigo, and I’m a sweet, gentle white American Staffordshire Terrier mix fella. I’m well-named because “amigo” means “friend” in Spanish, and that’s what I want to be --- your friend. I was initially shy when I first met my Foster Mom, but once I warmed up to her by learning that she’s gentle and that I can trust her, I’ve been a happy canine marshmallow ever since. I adore going on walks with her as well as when she trains me because they’re great bonding times for us. Playtime is my favorite part of my day, and she has several dogs that fill the bill – especially the girls and the small ones.

You see, I was found hiding in some bushes at the pool in my foster mom’s neighborhood. I had a lot of emotional scars from the way hoomans had treated me as a stray, so I was terrified of the Good Samaritan who tried to catch me. Thank heavens that he was persistent, and his consistent gentleness convinced me that he had my best interests at heart.

It’s amazing how resilient I’ve become as I've learned that not all hoomans are scary. True confessions: I still get a little scared on adoption days – but there’s the chaos of barking dogs and swarms of people. However, I love treats, and they save the day for me at adoption events!

I’ve come such a long way in my socialization that I’m pretty proud of myself – and so is Foster Mom! So it’s time for me to find my forever family. I’m gentle and loving, sweet-natured, extremely loyal, trustworthy, and affectionate -- which all add up to making me an ideal family dog. And did I mention that I’m eager to please and possess a very all-round mild, playful, pleasant temperament?

Arrange to meet me today! I want nothing more than a loving, patient home where my hooman will let me blossom into the true “amigo” I was meant to be!

CHERISHES TIME SPENT WITH HIS PEOPLE

DOB 2/1/23, Weight 63 lbs.

Hey there, everyone! I’m Bear, an incredibly smart, loyal, patient, gentle Siberian Husky/Anatolian Shepherd mix fella. My stunning ice-blue eyes, bushy curled tail, and upright “prick” ears indicate my Husky heritage. Yet, although I’m less than half the size of a purebred Anatolian Shepherd, my biscuit color as well as my black eyes and muzzle certainly bespeak that breed somewhere in my bloodlines.

You can tell from my sweet, innocent face that I’ve got quite a soft side. I’m happiest when I’m hanging out with my people, whether it’s lounging at their feet, getting belly rubs, or leisurely walking on quiet streets together. Boy howdy, do I love trips to the farmer’s market, doggie day care, and the dog park where I can really stretch my legs. I’m quite a nimble, playful guy who absolutely loves fetching balls that my foster pawrents throw as well as chewing on my squeaky toys.

My future foster pawrents found me as I wandered their neighborhood during Hurricane Beryl. They quickly realized how special I am – no ordinary stray – and brought me home. Their due diligence did not result in getting me back home, but they were delighted to discover that I was already housebroken and obeyed a few commands like “sit” and “shake.” I get along great with the two resident Chihuahua females, although we’re like Mutt and Jeffs. True confessions: I’m a little too energetic for the resident cats.

True to my Husky side, I can be a bit vocal, although I’m much calmer and easy-going than most Huskies. When my foster pawrents leave, I don’t do well in a crate and can be a bit of an escape-artist, but I’m on my best behavior when I’m left free-roaming in my foster home with my canine buddies.

I’d make a devoted, responsive, adaptable and all-around fantastic companion for a family who can keep up with my energy and provide me with lots of love. Could your family become my best forever friends? Arrange to meet me today, and I promise that my mesmerizing blue eyes are sure to catch your attention and enrapture your hearts.

LOVES TO SNUGGLE AND GET OODLES OF ATTENTION

Estimated DOB 3/25/24, weight 40 lbs.

This young girl Calliope is very sweet and playful, and has energy to spare!  Her foster home has several dogs and Calliope wants to play -- er -- wrestle with all of them.  She loves to go on walks, meet new people, play with her stuffed animal toys, and snuggle on the couch for movie time.

Calliope was abandoned in the parking lot of a PetSmart but fortunately, her future foster mom worked at the store and scooped her right up! Calliope knows Sit and Wait, and likes to sleep in her crate at night.

Calliope would love a home where she can get lots of attention and exercise as well as have a canine brother or sister to play with.  Is that you?

You are here:
TO LOVE AND BE LOVED IS MY MOTTO

DOB 12/2/24, WEIGHT 9.5#

Arf! Arf, everyone! I’m Chipilin, an amusing, friendly, and affectionate tri-colored Biewer Terrier/wire-haired Chihuahua mix fella whose only purpose in life is to love and be loved. I weighed 9.5 pounds at 5.5 months old, so I could weigh 14-15 pounds at maturity.  I’m devoted to my foster mom and get along nicely with her resident cats. I’m great with well-behaved children who’ve been taught how to handle small dogs. I’m young and frisky, so I love to play with other small dogs (but not big dogs!).

Biewer Terriers are very similar to Yorkshire Terriers except we are tri-colored. We are very dedicated, loyal family members who are friendly with strangers. We’re quick to alert you to company, but we’re not constant barkers. I was surrendered to my HOPE foster mom because my previous owner could no longer care for me. I came to Foster Mom already house-, kennel-, and leash-trained, so I’ve been an easy addition to her household.

Now I’m ready to bring my happy-go-lucky attitude and whimsical charm to my new family. Could that be you? If you’re looking for a canine Peter Pan who’ll never outgrow his lighthearted, childlike demeanor, I’m the boy for you! Arrange to meet me today! ALWAYS READY TO BE SHOWERED WITH ATTENTION

Est. DOB 3/1/24, weight 44 lbs

Meet Daisy, a young, energetic girl who’s always ready to chase a ball and show off her signature zoomies! She thrives on attention and isn’t shy about letting you know when she wants more — she can be quite the talker.

She was found in a ditch on the side of the road after being hit by a car and was taken to BARC, the City of Houston shelter.  Her foster mom pulled her, and Daisy hasn’t ever looked back!

Daisy is crate-trained and loves playing with her toys, especially when treats are involved. While she can be a little nervous around new people, she warms up with patience and kindness. She’s cat-friendly and has a protective streak when it comes to her space.

Daisy is curious about other dogs and seems eager to play, but she needs slow, positive introductions as she can be a bit unsure at first. She's also very sensitive to correction, so a gentle and understanding approach is a must. Daisy is ready for Meet-&-Greets and is hoping to find her forever home — maybe with you!

Hedy Lamarr #movie-star-litter

You are here:
BORN ADVENTURER

DOB 12/14/24, estimated adult weight ~25-30 lbs.

Hey there, everyone! I'm Hedy (as in Hedy Lamarr), an energetic, playful, and surprisingly cuddly Dachshund/Labrador mix gal with mesmerizing pale green eyes. I’m a real people dog, and, when I’m tuckered out from puppy playtime, I’m happy to fall asleep cradled in my foster pawrents’ arms.

I have an adventurous streak and am a confident explorer. In fact, when I was just hours old, I tried to climb through the wire crate and got my head stuck. (Hence, I was named for “Hedy” Lamarr, which started my foster pawrents’ naming the rest of my litter for vintage movie stars.)

My 15-pound Basenji/Dachshund mix momma Bruni followed my foster pawrents home from a walk; they invited her inside; and several weeks later, she birthed my #movie-star litter in foster care! My long legs, speed while running, and brown coat all indicate that perhaps my dad was a Chocolate Lab. Since he must've been bigger than Bruni, I'll likely weigh about 25-30 pounds when I'm full grown.

What sets me apart from my siblings? Well, I was the first to enjoy walking on a leash. I’m the quickest to run to the door so I can come back inside. I’m an attentive listener and very intelligent, so I’ve already learned a few basic commands like “come” and “sit.” I also know what I want and don’t want to do, so I grumble more than my siblings when I’m made to move when that’s not on my agenda.

Now I’m ready to bring joy and fun into my forever home. If you're a family who will welcome a born adventurer who’s always ready for playtime, I'm the gal for you! Arrange to meet me today! I promise to cover your face with mushy puppy kisses.

Jack #booty-wiggler

You are here:
THE LOVE MEISTER

Est. DOB:  10/1/22, weight 70 lbs

Jack is the sweetest boy with the biggest, best-est smile! He loves so hard because he just wants to be with you. Velcro doesn't come close, and as a bonus -- he's a leaner! He has THE BEST booty-wiggle and the daintiest, softest smooches when he gets comfy with you. He loves treats and is a fast learner. He is a little excitable (jumpy) but responds well to commands.

Jack got his name because he was found at a Jack in the Box, where he was panhandling for food. So his future foster mom scooped him up and took him home to give him a real meal (although he still likes hamburgers).

Jack plays well with people and other dogs. (He hasn't been tested around cats.) He is a power-chewer and enjoys nylon-type bone toys, raw meaty bones, and black Kongs filled with peanut butter.  He LOVES walks and all the good sniffs that come with them! Jack is the perfect motivation to keep tidy and enjoy the outside in exchange for his unconditional love and a best friend who is head-over-heels in love with his person!!

Kip #fun-junky

You are here:
OPTIMISTIC GOOFBALL

Estimated date of birth is 8/8/22, weight 55 lbs.

So what is a Blue Lacy, you might ask? Why, it’s the State Dog of Texas, of course!  https://www.thesprucepets.com/blue-lacy-breed-profile-4769790

Kip is a fun junky that loves to play with other dogs (sometimes it looks like Wrestlemania), but his second favorite activity is to hang out with his foster mom, chewing on a good bone.  He’s such a goofball, always optimistic, always sure that a treat is hiding in your pocket and it has his name on it!  A sweet potato – yes.   A couch potato – not so much, although when he’s worn out, he does relax and loves to be petted while he snoozes on his dog cot.

Kip has been to obedience school and knows the basics (Sit, Down, Place, Wait).  He also knows how to use the doggy door and stairs, is OK with baths (he splashes around in the pond at the dog park), and looooves to go on walks (and doesn’t pull much).

This boy had a rough first year of his life: abandoned at a large park, found his way to a kennel, was picked up by the City Pound, caught parvo at the pound and wound up on the euthanasia list before his foster mom sprung him!

Kip’s ideal home environment would have a mom /dad with an active lifestyle, a spunky little canine sister to play and snuggle with, and a nice size backyard to run around and get the zoomies out.  Are you up for it!?

WHAT AN INNOCENT FACE!

Est DOB 12/22/23, weight 52 pounds

Hey there, everyone! I’m Milo, and I’m a sweet, happy, playful black Labrador/Cattle Dog mix fella with a splash of white on my nose and on my chest. I’ve got the prick ears of a Cattle Dog, but my solid black coat and lanky build indicate my Lab heritage.

I’m one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet because I love everyone, and of course, everyone loves me back. Could it be because of the always-innocent expression on my face? One of my favorite things to do is fall asleep on top of Foster Mom. True confessions: I snore a bit! I’m smart as a whip, and because I’m very food-motivated, treats have helped me to pick up a few commands very quickly.

I have lots of puppy energy, so I love to horse around with the resident dogs in my foster home but I also love to go to Doggy Day Care where I get along with everybody!  I’m curious about the cats, but I haven’t been allowed to meet them yet. Thank heavens Foster Mom rescued me as a stray who was wandering her neighborhood with no collar, tags, or chip. Now I’m ready to find my forever home, and I can’t wait! Could that be with you? Arrange to meet me, and I promise to cover your face with mushy puppy kisses.

Sammy #cheery-lap-dog

You are here:
BOOSTS YOUR MOOD, MAKES YOU SMILE

Est. DOB 1/7/15, WEIGHT 12.7 lbs.

Arf! Arf, everyone! I’m Sammy, a sweet, friendly, quiet, and affectionate white Maltipoo (Maltese/Mini Poodle mix) fella who is, in my humble opinion, the world’s greatest little dog. I think my foster mom agrees because she loves it that I curl up and settle in her lap whenever I can. There are two resident dogs and a cat in my foster home, but I’m much rather interact with beloved Foster Mom than play with them.

I have a comical idiosyncrasy: I like to burrow under anything I can move and get under. You name it – bedcovers, blankets, pillows, throws. Foster Mom thinks it’s adorable that a cute little thing such as I am likes to excavate my own little lair like a mole.

Let me tell you a little about Maltipoos. We’re gentle, social dogs who love people. Our happy, cheerful dispositions are guaranteed to boost your mood and make you smile. We can even be good therapy dogs because of the comfort we provide. And I’m no exception to this profile!

I really looked like a mess when my foster mom first rescued me! Oh my goodness – I weighed only 10 pounds! You could see every bone on my vertebrae, plus I had no hair on my back. My eyes were practically glued shut with “goop” from an infection; I also had an ear infection; and my mouth was a mess from neglected preventative dentistry.

Thank heavens Foster Mom and the vet have transformed me into a new man! With a steady diet of nutritious food, I’ve gained 2.5 pounds, I’m filling out nicely, and my fur is growing back! I’m eating a soft diet that’s appropriate after all of the diseased teeth (that hadn’t already fallen out) have been pulled. I look and feel so much better! And the silver lining about having no teeth is that I don't need any future dental cleanings!

Medications have cleared up my original eye and ear infections. The vet also diagnosed that I have a condition called “dry eye,” which means that I don’t produce tears like I should. So Foster Mom puts drops in my eyes twice a day and cleans out any “goop” once to twice a day Thanks to the hair around my eyes being clipped, Foster Mom can clean out my eyes easier. I have cataracts in both eyes so I have very limited visibility and bump into things, but get around once I've learned my way! I generally move slow so I don’t hurt myself !

Even though I sleep a good portion of the day, I am quite aware of sounds and scents. I will sound the alarm at unfamiliar noises. I will track Foster Mom down if she has moved from where I left her using my superior olfactory senses.

My ideal home would be one that has a doggie door to a small fenced back yard and someone to keep me company.  I’m so grateful for all the love and attention that I’m getting! In return, I snuggle and cuddle like you wouldn’t believe! I’ve learned how to use the doggie door, and I’m now crate-trained.

If you’re looking for a cozy lap dog and can look past my limitations, I’d really like to be your dog! Half of my life is still ahead of me, so let’s spend it together! My heart has so much love to give, all that’s missing is YOU!

Willie #what-a-great-dog

You are here:
TOP OF HIS OBEDIENCE CLASS

Appr. DOB 8/28/23, weight 41 lbs

Hey Hooman, they call me Willie! If you do choose to adopt me - just know that wherever you are, I'll be napping nearby to wait for the next moment that I can climb in your lap for some snuggles or just some well-placed pats. Although I adore being loved by my people, I don't pester them for affection. I'm playful when it's playtime, but I settle down and happily chill out at my hooman's feet while they read.

I'm very intelligent (hello, Cattle Dog!) and catch on quickly to training. (I was top of my obedience class!) I also LOVE treats - so training me is not only a fun experience for us both but also a challenge for me to learn more tricks to show off to your friends. I already know how to automatically sit to say "please!" and have great eye contact.

I'm curious when I meet other dogs on my walks (and tug on my leash when I see a cat that I want to chase). With some structure and delicious chicken, I’ve started making better choices in no time, and now I get along with all but alpha dogs.

Even though I look like a basic-black Cattle Dog - don't judge me by my looks! Because if you ask the humans who helped rescue me, they'll say that it's my "if-you're-down-I'm-down!" attitude that makes me so lovable. So much so that a group of people have rallied behind me to find me my forever home.

My rescue story is one that really shows how "it takes a village" to make rescue happen! A Good Samaritan found me as a stray who was probably dumped on the side of the busy Grand Parkway in front of the PetSmart in Richmond. He posted on Facebook and knocked on doors to find my owner or a foster home since he couldn't keep me. After bouncing around to several homes for my first few days post-rescue, I was ecstatic when my rescuer connected with HOPE, who networked to find a foster mom to love and care for me.

At first being left alone in an apartment was something I struggled with, and believe me, my barking was frowned upon by the management. However, since my foster mom started leaving me with a delicious foraging item in my crate, I'm much more amenable to waiting for my partner in crime to get back home. Eventually my time ran out with my temporary foster mom - so I now live in a boarding facility until someone falls in love with me.

Now the only eyes I'm trying to catch are those of my forever pawrent! I’m ready to bring my affectionate loyalty, boundless energy, and wicked intelligence to my new family. Could that be you? My perfect home would be out in the country where I could explore my territory without the constraints of a leash. I promise that I don’t wander far and always come back because my favorite part of the day is chilling out at my hooman’s feet (or snuggled next to their leg on the sofa!). Arrange to meet me today! My heart has so much love to give - all I need is YOU!

ALWAYS UP FOR AN ADVENTURE

DOB 5/1/22, weight 58 pounds

Hey there, everyone! I’m Xena, a sweet, incredibly friendly, spirited Siberian Husky mix gal whose heart is as big as my beautiful blue eyes. Due to my congenial nature, I love making new friends, whether they’re hooman or other dogs. I’m always up for an adventure – whether it’s a hike, a run, or just a fun day at the park. When the day is done, though, I’m an affectionate gal who just wants to relax and cuddle with Foster Mom. Since I’m quite smart and eager to please, she’s had a joy training me.

It’s hard to believe that I was hanging out as a stray with no collar, tags, or chip outside of a game shop. Who would not tear the neighborhood apart searching for me -- unless I was abandoned because my owner couldn’t afford to keep me as their pet anymore? Ah well, I’m not looking back! I was making a homeless man very agitated because the game store was "his territory." Thank heavens Foster Mom brought me home to foster me when she was alerted to my situation, and she promises to find me the fantastic forever home that I deserve the second time around.

If you’re looking for a loyal, lovable, playful, and energetic companion for your active lifestyle, I’m ready to be your new best friend. Arrange to meet me today. I think you’ll find not only that am I stunningly beautiful eye candy, but also that spending time with me will a complete joy to your heart.
