Buddy

You are here:

I am a gorgeous, friendly, energetic and unique fella.  For a while, I was a solitary kind of guy with no family, just checking things out on my own and taking it easy.  Then one night I had a run in with a UPS truck. He won and that’s how I became unique:  I am now a tri-pod.  My foster mom took me in, got me all fixed up, I learned to get by with just three legs and I am doing awesome!  I LOVE to run, play and enjoy my new life completely.  The only thing that would make it better would be to have a forever home of my own, hopefully with a canine sibling or two that I can play with; no cats please.  I currently live with two older brothers but they don’t play very much and I get bored.  I love to cuddle up next to my person on the couch, I’ll take all the tummy rubs I can get, and I even give kisses.  I am crate trained and trained for a doggy door, walk on leash, but pull a bit.  I love to chew on bones, toys, and I will chase a ball, but might not bring it back.  I would love to be your awesome tri-pod ‘cause we don’t need no stinkin’ 4 legs !!!!

Approx. DOB:  Jan. 2014. Approx. Weight:  35 lbs.

Christian

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is 6/1/15, weight about 60 lbs.

Christian in a playful, happy, good-natured fella, as far as he's concerned, every day is a fun day!  He's also incredibly sweet, he loves people and wants to play with other dogs.  But he chases cats.

Christian was abandoned at a park in SW Houston prior to being rescued by a Good Samaritan.  Now he's being boarded in a kennel but he would so much like to have a true home of his own.

Christian has been through basic obedience class and he loves to chase the tennis ball.  He walks OK on leash and is well behaved in his crate at adoptions.

Cookie

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is 4/1/12, weight is about 20 lbs.

Cookie is as sweet as her name implies!  This playful girl likes to play with the other foster dogs in her foster home (chase in the backyard or living room is a favorite game), snuggle on the couch with her foster mom when they're watching TV, and cuddle with her doggy pals  in the big living room chair. She also gives her foster mom kisses.  Cookie is  crate trained and uses the doggy door.  It is a requirement of adoption that Cookie be allowed on the furniture.

Faith

You are here:

Faith is a super sweet and cuddly girl! She was rescued off the streets of Houston as a stray in very bad health from being used as a bait dog. It was a long road to recovery for this precious pup but she is now healed, healthy and ready for her very own family. She is still growing in some hair on her face and body due to the illnesses she had when she was rescued in September. The scars she was left with on her body are forever reminders of the cruel life she endured but has left behind forever. Faith is estimated to be about 4 years old, is potty trained and crate trained. She is trusted to roam her foster parent's house all the time where she lounges on the sofa taking long naps. Her favorite activities include cuddling with her foster parents on the couch, playing in the backyard with her foster dog siblings, squeaky toys and going for walks around the neighborhood. She is very friendly with strangers and loves to meet new people. Faith would do best in a home where she has a canine companion to wrestle with and a family that will continue to shower this sweetheart with the kindness and love she never had as a street pup. She is wonderful with children but would do best in a home with older children due to her breed's physical strength and size. Faith is not good with cats but shares her foster home now with dogs of all sizes ranging from Rottweiler to a Mini Schnauzer. Harper

You are here:

Estimated DOB is 3/15/15, weight is 65 lbs.

Harper is one happy, friendly, outgoing guy!  He likes ALL people (adults and kids) and ALL dogs (male, female, big, small).  He's playful (but not over the top), sweet, loves to fetch the tennis ball, go on walks, be petted, give hugs, and to top it all off, he's so handsome!!  What's not to love about this dog?!

Harper is so well behaved in his crate at mobile adoptions, he's perfect in the car riding to adoptions (he can either be in a crate or on the back seat), and he loves all the attention and treats while he's at adoptions.  So why hasn't he been adopted yet?  You should be the lucky person to have Harper join your family, he's just an awesome dog and will be a great canine addition.

Johnny Cash

You are here:

Hi, I'm Johnny Cash and I want to sing my way into your heart!

I'm a lovable guy that likes to have fun! The dog park is one of my favorite places. I am a happy-go-lucky guy who gets along well with everyone and am very socialized.  When I'm not practicing my next country hit, I like to sleep in my doggie bed, or curl up in someone's lap.  I am intelligent and I learn quickly. In fact, I am a recent graduate of Basic Obedience Level 1 and I can sit, stay, and I’m working on learning to shake hands!  I'm an active pup, so be ready to rock-n-roll. Yes, country and rock-n-roll CAN go together.

Approx 6 mos old and 40 lbs

Marley

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is Sept. 2013, weight is about 55 lbs.

Marley is a waggy tail kind of gal.  Spending time with her foster mom, treats, going to adoptions, going on long walks - it doesn't take much to make this girl happy and wag her tail.  Marley is pretty low maitenance, she doesn't require a lot of exercise, she's mostly happy hanging out in the house with her person and going for walks.

Marley is crate trained, house trained, leash trained and knows some basic commands. All she needs to complete the picture is a home of her own!

Nina

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is 10/28/15, weight is about 55 lbs.

Meet Nina! She is sweet, kind, and quiet for the most part with incredible eyes and an infectious smile. She loves her daily walks and is an accomplished jogger.  In the evenings she loves to snuggle up with some pillows and just lounge.

She is docile around the house and has no desire to chew or destroy. But don't let that calm demeanor fool you- Nina is also a huntress in the wild! Her current mission is to catch a fish while swimming in the local pond. She also LOVES car rides, especially when she gets to stick her head out the window.

While she enjoys the occasional trip to the dog park (and is fine with other dogs), she mostly seems to enjoy the company of humans (of all ages!).

Basically, she's just about perfect. Unfortunately, she cannot stay forever at her foster home as the resident cats keep her on edge. Nina needs to find a home without cats or small dogs.

Skipper

You are here:

Skipper!  What a friendly, energetic, charming, and loving young man.  We think he may be part Deer Head Chihuahua because he is a bit taller than your average Chi (he’s kind of all legs!) and his head doesn’t really look like an apple 🙂  He loves to play with his chew toys, wrestle with his canine siblings, and snuggle in our laps or under the covers.  Skip needs brother(s) or sister(s) who like to goof around as much as he does playing tug of war or chase.  We have not seen him around cats so we’re not sure how he would react, but we suspect he would just want to play with them too!  He loves to go on walks and is a bit notorious for scooting out an open door.  If no one is around to play with, he can pass the time carrying his toys from one end of the house to the other or throwing them up in the air.  Sometimes just snoozing in a lap is a great way for him to spend his time.  He does love his people!  He’s crate trained and house-trained; can sit, stay, and hop in his crate to eat dinner. There is an old injury that was not properly treated so he has a bit of a limp, but you wouldn’t know it most times because it doesn’t slow him down!  Skipper is a smart little guy and aims to please.  When he looks at you with those big, loving, brown eyes, it just melts your heart!

Approx. DOB:  May, 2016, Weight:  15 lbs.

Sugar

You are here:
Super sweet & super fun!

Estimated date of birth is 1/1/16, weight is 45 lbs.

Sugar was named Sugar because of her sweet disposition.  She loves people and loves to fetch the tennis ball! She's a spunky girl with a million dollar smile 🙂

Sugar is crate trained, house trained and leash trained.  She has been through basic obedience class and knows some commands.  Sugar has a lot of energy and would love to go to a home with a big backyard for exercise, some older kids (teenagers on up) to run around with, and a nice soft, comfy dog bed all of her own.

Thunder

You are here:

Estimated date of birth is 11/7/15, approx weight 55 lbs

If you are looking for a sweet boy who loves to snuggle, play and accept belly rubs,  Thunder is the perfect dog for you!  One morning his foster mom was walking her other two fur babies and this sweet guy quietly followed her all the way home! He sat there waiting by her front door, and she couldn’t say no to this precious face.  He is playful, sweet, curious, has lots of energy, loves to run around the backyard, and has an abundance of love to give. If you don’t mind having a big lap dog and spending hours upon hours of snuggling, then this is the boy for you!

Toby

You are here:

Estimated DOB is 1/1/14, weight is about 30 lbs.

Toby had a rough life prior to going up for adoption.  He was abandoned in a backyard when his owner moved out.  Left chained up, with no food or water or shelter.  A neighbor finally called Animal Control and Toby was confiscated.  He weighed 17 lbs and was starving.  The chain was embedded in his neck and had to be surgically removed.  He became "evidence" in a cruelty case and when he was somewhat recovered, his foster mom pulled him from the Pound and started his rehab.  Now, he weighs 27 lbs, his coat is shiny, he's happy and he's up for adoption!

Toby is very affectionate, he loves to give kisses and crawl up in your lap.     He also loves going to mobile adoptions because everyone feeds him so many treats!  His favorite form of exercise is fetching the tennis ball.  His foster mom takes him on walks with her other foster dogs and he's slowly learning to enjoy the company of other dogs.  He knows some basic commands such as Sit and Down and he's working on Stay and Come.

Toby would do best in an active home where he could be included in family outings.  He would love to have a big backyard to play in and he would enjoy continuing his obedience training.

Travis is a sweetie, he likes to sit  next to his foster mom on the couch and put his head in her lap.  He's also very good with her other dogs, in particular her female Pit mix whom he likes to wrestle with (he's afraid of her Maltese).  Travis is playful, crate trained, uses the doggy door, and is ready to go to his new home!

Turtle

You are here:

Turtle is ready to give up her career as a back yard junk dog!  It's time to start something new, and HOPE Rescue in Houston is ready to help her. Turtle has many skills that will make her new career as an adopted pooch a breeze!  For example, she has plenty of playgroup experience, and she excels at zooming around the yard.  However, she also enjoys just sitting in the yard bird watching or watching the squirrels playing in the trees.  She also has wonderful people skills.

Turtle's specialties are snuggling, smiling and making human hearts grow three sizes. Turtle's favorite past time is just lying on the couch with her human & watching TV.  Can you help Turtle start her new career as an adopted member of your loving family?

Venus

You are here:

In her own words:  I was saying to myself just this morning "Venus, you know what you need? You need a person all your own."  So I sat down to write this post for the nice people at HOPE, because apparently that's the kind of thing they do - find nice people for extremely intelligent and lovable furbabies.  I shudder to type this, but I'M LAPLESS! That's right, I have no lap to call my own. Could you be persuaded to volunteer yours?  I can't wait to see my forever home!
